You might call this an impressive parallel park. Or a prime example of the tight squeezes demanded by urban parking. Or you might call it luck. That's our good old Chevy Impala sitting precariously close to that Dodge pickup. As you can tell by the lighting, it's 3 AM-ish on Friday night. Our friends the Watkins a few doors down unfortunately weren't so lucky and took one for the team, postponing our Impala's date with the grim tow-trucker and the junkyard.
WARNING: graphic car damage depicted in the following pictures may be inappropriate for some Honda lovers.
Here's the story. Around 3 AM last night, Brianna's sister who is staying the weekend with us heard a LOUD crash right outside our apartment. Some drunken idiot had been speeding down our street and couldn't see straight enough to drive straight. He plowed into two parked cars, hopped the curb, and hit the tree in front of our house. Fortunately he wasn't seriously injured. The first car he hit ended up with some serious body damage, but is probably still drivable. The Watkin's Honda ended up 8 feet down the street from where it was parked and up on the curb. She didn't go down without a fight though, taking off the truck's front wheel before it was all over, as you can see in the last picture. The truck missed hitting our car by inches. The sopped-up kid tried to drive away, but that fourth wheel turned out to be kind of important, and he didn't make it very far.
Our lawn and the poor tree in front of our place didn't fair too well either:

In the end, four or five patrol cars, a paramedic, and a firetruck showed up. The sloshed driver got hauled off to the station, and the Watkin's finally get to take advantage of that rental car clause on their insurance. Cash for clunker, anyone? Moral of the story: don't park on the street unless you have two neighbor's cars parked ahead of you.
