We are kind of a big deal these days because, yeah, we garden.
Gardening is the new black among young couples here in C-bus. We jumped on the band wagon, and planted a few veggies this year on our back patio. It is kind of fun seeing seeds sprout. Kind of like that third grade lima bean and plastic bag project, but better. It should be even more fun once we start getting produce. We planted garlic (which grows amazingly fast), radishes, lettuce, carrots, green onions, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, some flowers, and have plans to get some herbs over the next few days. Anyone else out there gardeners? What are your bumper crops of choice? Any advice for us new green thumbers, especially in regards to squirrel repelling?

We have a pesky little critter too.
I would suggest a netting of some sort. We have yet to buy one ourselves, but the plot next to ours has one, and I think it works!
We are also gardeners. In fact, in addition to just having a yard, this is one of the reasons we wanted to have a house. We have planted carrots, peas, beans, lettuce, bok choy, gai lan, Asian eggplant, green onions, acorn squash, tomatoes, turnip, broccoli, parsley, & sweet sweet basil - let's just hope that we get at least 10 cents worth per vegetable (that's how much we spent for most of the seed packets). Our peas have flowered, and most of the others have sprouted. I'm excited!
The only advice we have is that manure is muy importante. We got some 3-4 year aged manure from a nearby mink farm. That was fun.
As for critters, the only one that I know of isn't even allowed near the garden. I don't know if she'd eat the sprouts or just the soil, though.
That's so awesome you guys garden. BUT, it can't be as cool as the bean plants the kids made in the DR. Those were intense!
My students have been growing little watermelon plants and they're easy to take care of. If you planted soon you could have delicious melons by september!
When are you going to come visit us? We miss you guys!
You should grow everything you need to make your own salsa!! Way to grow some plants. I'm proud of you!
